Core Philosophy & Beliefs

John describes himself as having a "big heart and a sharp mind." Here are the beliefs and principles that have guided his life.

Love, not success, is the true measure of a life well lived.
Everyone leaves a mark β€” whether they know it or not.
True strength includes vulnerability and kindness.
Our stories outlive us, and they matter.
You can't control everything, but you can choose your response.
Most people are doing their best, even when they fall short.

Guiding Principles

Leave things better than you found them.
Speak the truth, but do it with compassion.
Learn something from everyone.
Never stop growing.
Celebrate the small moments β€” they're the big ones in disguise.
The trilogy of contentment: Like, Respect, Love.

Biography β€” In His Own Words

John describes himself as a man with a "big heart and a sharp mind," combining "book smart and street smart" intelligence. People have described him as having a "boy's charm with the wisdom of a man." He is introspective, empathetic, and deeply committed to continuous self-improvement.

His career spanned four decades in telecommunications β€” from designing high-speed data networks at AT&T to leading Lucent's eBusiness transformation as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff. He helped build the infrastructure of the internet age, and he did it with both technical precision and human empathy.

He has traveled the world three times, with a special love for Italy (seven visits), St. Barts, and Asia. He has attended over 66 Springsteen concerts since 1978. He published a book, wrote and performed a song, designed a board game concept, and created an AI version of himself β€” all driven by the same belief: our stories outlive us, and they matter.

When asked what mark he wants to leave, he doesn't point to career titles. He says: "I had a good heart. I worked hard. I traveled the world. I created. I laughed. I loved. I tried to inspire. And I hope I did."

"You redeem my life's existence."
